Duo - J.Girotto/L.Biondini

Javier Girotto sax soprano, baritone and flutes
Luciano Biondini accordion

It is certainly not the first time that jazz and argentinian tradition marry ending in a vigoures embrace similar to a impetuous and unexpected tango. Nor is it the first time that an accordion, popular instrument, offers the echo of a mixture of all the world’s folklore and bursts out charmingly from its classic tradition.

The Italian Luciano Biondini, however, and the Argentinian Javier Girotto , both lyrical and very melodic, without trying to renovate this kind of intimate conversation, have the sensitivity and the talent to elevate this “style” to it’s highest esthetic level and poetic sentiment.

Together the two men propose an original music, giving us “new bridges between jazz and tango”. Free improvisationI and neoclassical writing. We see much melancoly and elegance in this musical universe that speaks both to the soul as well as to the intellect.

The duo took form in year 2000 and performed in the most famous European jazz festivals, Berlin, Coutances, Triennale of Cologne, Vienna, Clusone, Villa Celimontana, Fandango Festival, Auditorium S. Cecilia in Rome, Bergamo Jazz, Monaco and others. In 2002 they recorded their first disc “El Cacerolazo“ for the Italian label Philology, dedicated to the Argentinian people.

El Cacerolazo is, in fact, a pacific protest that Argentinians have often manifested on the streets, beating kitchen pans. This year their second disc came out, “ Terra Madre”, for the German label ENJA. This last work confirms the continued growth of these two collaborating musicians, both in their compositions and in their espressive language. Their music is inspired by argentinian and mediterrenean music, conceived as ground for research of an overwhelming lyricism and musical warmth which supercedes the limits of jazz. Understanding and energy are the basic components of their performance.
